10 Days of Gratitude—A Challenge To Be Thankful

Gratitude Happiness

Gratitude. It’s that thing you do once a year with the family while you’re stuffing your face with turkey and carbs.

What if you could do it more than just one day a year? What if you could start practicing gratitude every single day? What benefits are there to be had by cultivating a gratitude practice on the daily?

Experts have plenty to say on the subject. For example, a study published by Emotion proved that saying “thank you” more often to friends and strangers can help you generate meaningful relationships. It also improves your physical health. Everything from writing up thank you notes to saying “thanks” when someone opens the door for you, counts for this practice.

According to a 2012 study, grateful people experience fewer aches and pains and report feeling healthier. Grateful people are also more likely to take care of their physical health.

Obviously, showing gratitude goes beyond the superficial positive self-talk bullshit that many people subscribe to. It engages the mind and body and forces us to think beyond our problems.

For the past several months, I’ve had a gratitude practice. Every evening before I go to sleep, I take out a journal and write down several things I am thankful for that day. Whether it’s a smile from a stranger, or the fact that I didn’t end up in a mental institution, I have something to smile about.

So I thought, why not present a challenge to my friends, family and readers to start expressing gratitude daily.

I give you the 10 Days of Gratitude Challenge!

Each day for 10 days, I’m going to post a gratitude prompt for you to follow. The challenge will center on having a gratitude journal, with a few photo prompts thrown in. You can follow them as you wish, but I highly recommend doing them each day to get the greatest benefit out of the challenge.

The challenge starts on March 7, so mark your calendar if you’d like to get yo’ gratitude on. Also, grab a journal and some fresh ink pens to prepare yourself to commit to it.

I’m super stoked, and I hope you are too. Subscribe to my blog and ‘Like’ me on Facebook for daily updates and gratitude quotes to keep you motivated throughout the challenge, and to share your thoughts with the community. This is going to be awesome!
