4 Ways to Build Self Esteem

Over the years my personal self esteem has fluctuated greatly. I have seen moments where I thought I was worthless and that I would never amount to anything. Other times, I grappled with my own inner strength reaching an almost euphoric high only to crumble in on myself left to pick up the pieces of my broken mind. Any time someone said something mean to me or about me, or possibly didn’t pay ‘enough’ attention to me I was crushed. However, I ultimately determined that self-esteem isn’t something we get from other people, it comes from within.

Without further ado, here are 4 methods to use to build your self-esteem.

1. Get off FACEBOOK! That’s right, eliminate or reduce the time you spend scrolling through page after page of over inflated egos posting about the best things happening in their lives. Although not everyone uses social media to make their egos larger than the size of their apartment, Facebook has a way of bringing you down and making you feel small. I struggle with social media addiction just as much as the next girl, but cutting back and limiting yourself will do a world of good for your self-esteem.

2. Stop tearing yourself down. Every time you tell yourself (whether outwardly or inwardly) ‘I look fat’ ‘I wish I was as intelligent as she’, or other such nonsense you destroy your confidence. Do yourself a favor and replace ‘I can’t’ ‘I don’t’ and ‘I’m not enough’, with ‘I’m beautiful’ an ‘I am enough’.

3. Stop giving a shit what other people think. The most successful people in the world didn’t get that way by fretting over every little thing that people said about them. I learned (particularly from my amazing partner in crime/husband) that the world is a better place to live in when you simply don’t give a shit what other people think. Adopt that attitude and you will see a tremendous difference in your life.

4. Set goals and go after them. There is nothing quite like setting a goal and achieving it. Whether you want to be healthier, learn a new language or travel to a new city, attaining your goals will build your confidence like nothing else. Sit down, write a list of what you want to accomplish and then do it. It’s that simple.
